Dear Doctor Osborne; Please accept my thanks for sending me the statements as issued. These are entirely acceptable to me, and they ai*e as satisfactory, in my opinion, as the time available and, especially, the peculiar set of circum stances would permit. I do hope that the Committee, as a whole, served its Immediate purpose in the eye3 of yourself and your associates, including Surgeon General Burney, and I also trust that my own dearth of time, as well as my viewpoint, was not the source of too much trouble. As to the future of this troublesome matter, I believe the desired result can be achieved through the joint action of the major purchasers and distributors of toys, brought to bear on the manufacturers, and perhaps through the latter, on p'aint manufacturers. I am meeting a few of the major purchasers the week after next (October 24 or ?5) to discuss their problems, and I shall have sane tiling substantial to report at a subsequent meeting of the Committee if such a meeting is desired. This meeting comes about as the result of a consultation desired by one of the purchasers, prior to my appointment to your Committee, and it does not involve any entanglement that would ombarraas either me, or* the Service through me, since it is in the line of my duty to this Laboratory and University.
