International Paint Co. 2270 Morris & Elmwood Avenues Union, New Jersey 07083 ' . ' Dear Jim, Our collective mind (mine and two different analysts in the lab) Is made up. NYTAL 300 and NY7AL 400 contain asbestos fibers. ` *. 1 Using two different anaiy+ical methods, 1) dispersion staining microscopy and 2 ) .polarIzjng light microscopy, asbestos was determined in each sample. Six analyses were . done for each product and each method (a total of twelve ` per product, 24 In all). The results of these*qua IitatIv and quantitative analyses Indicate that approximately 35# of the NYTAL 300 was asbestos fibers (anthrophylllte and tremolite) and that approximately 46# of NYTAL 400 was fibrous anthrophylllte and tremolite asbestos. Analytically we expect that our quantification of percent could be off by no more than, plus or minus 5$, As we discussed on The phone I don't think that workers ' at the plant have any significant exposure potential. The ` limited use (once per week) and the rotation of workers using the product substantially reduce the potential for a health hazard to exist, it would be prudent to test this hypothesis by air sampling and analysis during the ''dumping" process. . I've enclosed the results of our*recent solvent vapor study. Please call me to discuss the questions 1 know you'll have! The Invoice that is enclosed is for administrative pur poses only. Since I feel that I was recalcitrant in my responsibilities to you and International Paint in not W E S000849 following up on tha initial study. it up to you. . . I hope this wl i make .. . I hope our work has been of assistance to. you and your staff. ' WES000850
