ANTI-DUST CAMPAIGN: STOFBESTRYDINGSVELDTOG: LECTURE COMPETITION LESINGWEDSTRYD THE Anti-Dust Campaign Sub-Committee invites entries in a competition to select the best "anti-dust lecture". Entrants are require^ to submit details of a lecture on dust prevention, suppression and control which would be suitable for delivery to production personnel who have not previously been exposed to anti-dust propaganda. The rules are as follows: 1. Each entry submitted must be suitable for a lecture of fifteen minutes' duration. 2. Entries must not be written out in full but must be submitted in summary form. Summaries of lectures should detail only the paragraph headings, the examples, anecdotes or illustrations, together with copies of or notes on the visual aids which would be used in the lecture. 3. Entries must not exceed four (4) foolscap pages in length and must be typed. 4. Entries may be submitted in English or Afrikaans. 5. Entries must be forwarded to: Anti-Dust Campaign Sub-Committee, P.O. Box 809, JOHANNESBURG. 6. Closing date for receipt of entries will be 31st July, 1969. 7. The Anti-Dust Campaign Sub-Committee will select the six best entries and the persons submitting these will be required to deliver their lectures in full at one of the meetings of anti-dust lecturers which are held periodically at the Chamber of Mines Research Laboratory, Richmond, Johannesburg. The presenta tion of the lecture may be in either English or Afrikaans. 8. The award of prizes will be based on the merit rating given these lectures by the anti-dust lecturers present at the meeting. 9. The prize money offered is as follows: 1st, R250; 2nd, R200; 3rd, R150; 4th, R75; 5th, R50; 6th, R25. 10. The Anti-Dust Campaign Sub-Committee reserves the right to reduce the number of prizes in the event that the number or quality of the entries do not merit the award of all the prizes offered. 11. The decisions of the Anti-Dust Campaign Sub-Com mittee shall be final and binding and no correspond ence will be entered into. Anti-Dust Campaign: Lecture Competition Results Twelve finalists in the Anti-Dust Campaign Lecture Competition delivered their talks, illustrated by various mediums, before an audience of some 50 men at the Chamber of Mines Research Labora tories on March 12. A panel of 30 judges was in attendance and its placings of the finalists were announced by the Anti-Dust Campaign Sub-Com mittee as follows: 1st, R250 prize, Mr. L. B. Turner, West Driefontein; 2nd, R200 prize, Mr. T. A. Dow, Leslie G.M.; 3rd, R150 prize, Mr. D. A. Becking, University student; 4th, R75 prize, Mr. U. Schwanecke, Corner House Laboratories; 5th, R50 prize, Mr. J. van Schalkwyk, Western Holdings; joint 6th, R25 each, Mrs. J. Tiley, Harmony, and Mr. R. J. Macquet, Grootvlei.
