Here at last--a range boiler and storage tank for domestic hot water supply made of Arcolov--the new American Radiator Company alloy which develops a corrosion-resisting skin when sub jected to acids or alkalis. Silicon, phosphor and other constituents have been added to 95% pure copper to make a material possessing a higher resistance to ordinary corrosive agents than pure copper itself. In Arcolov boilers even the spuds are made from forged Arcolov. and the welding is done Arcolov has the strength of mild steel. Its tensile strength for ordinary boiler purposes averages 55.000 to 65,000 pounds per square inch, which will meet every ordinary requirement. For higher pressures, material having a strength up to 100.000 pounds per square inch is supplied. This extremely high resistance to mechanical breakdown, combined with its unusual ability to Copvrifbt 1938 American Radiator Co. 00075 resist corrosion, makes Arcoloy practically inde structible. These qualities, coupled with its weldability and fine appearance, give Arcoloy tanks an array of advantages which cannot be offered by any other product on the market. The color and surface structure of Arcoloy in its natural state re semble pure copper. The finish of Arcoloy tanks is further improved by a burnished finish and a light coat of lacquer which under normal conditions, if not subjected to abrasion, should last 2Co to 5 years. If the lacquer is not desired it can be removed quickly by a cloth saturated with gasoline or alcohol, without affecting the burnished finish. This lacquer acts as a protective coat for the finish. A coat of clear lacquer, applied by the customer from time to time with a brush, will preserve the finish indefinitely. Arcoloy has been in actual use for gas-fired storage tank heaters for some years. Its field use and severe breakdown and corrosion tests in our lab oratory have positively demonstrated the ability of Arcoloy as a corrosionresistant material. Sulphuric acid, nitric acid, other volatile acids and alka line agents had practically no effect. All Arcoloy range boilers and tanks are electrically welded, and pres sure-tested by the latest hydraulic testing apparatus. They are guaranteed for 20 years against all normal water conditions and use. To protect the high lacquer finish of Arcoloy Tanks, a special waterproof bag of fine fibre material is provided to encase the tank completely. This covering need not be removed until installation has been completed, and insures a fine unmarked surface in keeping with the handsome appearance of American Radiator or other modern comfort equipment. A standard certificate, duly regis tered on our records, is furnished with each tank, specifying that Arcoloy Tanks are guaranteed for twenty (201 years and are free from any defects in material and workmanship; and provided that they are not used at pressures greater than the safe working pressures given in our specifications, are guaran teed to perform satisfactorily. Arcoloy Tanks are not guaranteed against destruc tion from exceedingly charged acid waters, or when subject to the attack of carbon dioxide or other de structive agents not commonly encountered in ordi nary water conditions. Any adjustments will be based on the amount of service already rendered by such tanks up to and including the time at which report of the failure to give such service has been made to the American Radiator Company, and under no condi tions will the American Radiator Company be re sponsible for any other adjustment, other than the furnishing of a new tank.
