HANDLING ALL RAW MATERIALS These are basic safety rules 'to be observed in handling all raw materials, regardless of their hazard classification. They., are as follows: 1. No material is to be taken internally. 2. Hands must be washed before eating or emoking, 3. Food must net be stored or eaten in operating or storage areas, but only in designated lunch rooms or lunch box cribs. 4. Material containers must be closed when not in immediate use. Where such TLV's are not established, the ventilation should bo that dictated by the tost information avail able. The "S" Classifications must be based on: A - type of hazard presented by the respective material B - Processing system or method involved C - Quantity involved (production V-S Laboratory) Such considerations may require modification of a listed "S" Classification, although careful analysis must be made in order to retain adequate safeguards. Care should be taken to insure that the reason for the modification is thoroughly understood by the Personnel involved, so that activity in this direction does not undermine respect fer the overall system. Wherever inceptions are taken, they should be approved by the Department Manager and recorded in their Procedures, 10 prevent misunderstanding with the concurreno of the Safety Engineer. Upon receipt, of the material, it will be identifiable and indicate safe handling pron-durer. After "S" Classifications are -stubiishua and prior to the establishment of a procedure which will require suppliers to label their products with an n5B label. Production Control personnel will be required, when necessary, to attach wStt Classification Sticker and/or to stencil or otherwise mark legibly and permanently on each container, the appropriate classification (S--l. S-2, etc.), as indicated by the "F" Classification list that is received in the Operations without the proper nS" Class ifiration Code - MATERIALS REQUIRING EXTRA SPEC TAT. STORING OR HANDLING CONSIDERATION The following types of Hazardous Materials wj11 require special labeling as indicated in Sectiun B, Notes (1). (2), and (jr L - Oxidizing CriHBienls 2 - Combustible Clv-micais 3 - Unstable Chemicals 4 - Water and Air Reactive Chemicals 5 * Corrosive Chemicals 6 Toxic Chemicals - ADDITIONS AND REVISIONS The "S" Classification list will be i r-evaluated at least seml'-annuaily for the purpose of deleting obsolete mate.-' Now materials will be added to the list as requests for purchase are made, and the material is classified.
