Raji,
On background:
1. What are some of the reasons to consider buying water-saving appliances, e.g. water savings, energy savings, etc.?
The average family spends more than $1,000 per year in water costs, but can save more than $380 annually from retrofitting with WaterSense labeled fixtures and E N E R G Y STAR certified appliances. Learn more here: [http s :/ /vw w .epa.gov/watersense/our-water
2. What are the most important appliances to consider buying with theWaterSense rating and why, i.e. dishwasher, clothes washer, refrigerator, low-flow toilets, showerheads, faucets, lawn sprinkler (in-ground) bodies (units)?
To clarify, the WaterSense label can be found on toilets, bathroom faucets, showerheads, weather-based irrigation controllers, and irrigation spray sprinkler bodies (http s :/ / www.epa.gov/watersense/watersense-products). The program does not label the other types o f appliances referenced in the questions. Those appliances are labeled by E N E R G Y STAR, our sister program (http s:/ / www.energystar.gov/products). Clothes washers and dishwashers that have the E N E R G Y ST AR label consider water efficiency as well.
3. How can consumers make sense o f the WaterSense ratings? In other words, what should consumers look at/for in the ratings to help them interpret, read and make educated decisions in choosing appliances designated as such?
It's easy to find a water-efficient product, just look for the WaterSense or E N E R G Y STAR label. All products with the label have been certified to meet criteria that assure efficiency and performance. Some products are more efficient than others.
The WaterSense product search tool at http s :/ / www.epa.gov/watersense/ productsearch includes flow volumes associated with product models as well as other product attributes.

The E N E R G Y STA R product search tool at https: / / www.energystar.gov/productfinder/ also provides information on the water use expected with different models o f dishwashers and clothes washers.
4. What sort or rebates/incentives, if any, are being offered to consumers to buy WaterSense-rated appliances?
WaterSense has some rebate information on its website at https: / /vxcw .epa.gov/watersense/rebate-finder, but the best thing to is check with your local water utility because they change programs frequently based on available funding. For appliances, the E N E R G Y STAR product search tool also has information about rebates that may be available in your local area.
5. Feel free to add anything else you feel is important to add about the WaterSense program for consumers.
WaterSense develops specifications to label products that use less water, but we also have a lot o f information on other actions that consumers can take to improve their water efficiency indoors and outdoors. We encourage consumers to visit the WaterSense website at https: / /vxvvv.epa.gov/watersense to learn more.
