Dear Dr. Hamlin: Upon returning to the office after an absence of several weeks, I find a letter from Hoy Gardner in which, among other things, he expresses interest in the project on siderosis which we discussed. He says, as you probably know, that the investigation ties in with another project which he has underway for Dr. Cranch of Union Carbide. I discussed the possibility of the Foundation helping support this investigation with Dr. Lanza, Chairman of our Medical Committee, in Hew York last month. Vie left it that the Committee would give the project further consideration upon receipt of Dr. Gardner's proposal. As I recall, during our discussion here, you were to provide us with a copy of this proposal which Jack reviewed at our meeting. Accordingly, I would like to have this at your convenience in order that it may be transmitted to the Medical Committee. I presume you have noted the lead article By Enzer in the June issue of the Journal of Industrial Hygiene & Toxicology, which issue we have just received. When you are in New York again, it might be well for you to discuss the subject of siderosis with Dr. Cranch in case you have not done so already. Director, Medical Department Chicago Thought you might be interested to know that we were finally able to get together with Dr. Lanza for lunch on Tuesday. He and Mr. Given got along first rote.and they batted the ball around for an hour and a half or so on their various philosophies. We never did get around to the actual Pittsburgh speech although various points brought out in the speech were discussed in a general way. I think they both-- the doctor and' Mr. Given-- enjoyed each other tremendously, and of course I on the sidelines got a big kick out of it. The doctor is really quite a,fellow.
