Aluminum Jacket
UNISEST0S, the best high temperature insula tion now available with a factory applied .016 inch aluminum jacket with an integral, poly ethylene coated, kraft moisture barrier.
The jacketing employs a "Pittsburgh Lap" along the longitudinal joint to insure a good weatherproof seal. Each section is furnished with one butt joint sealer strap which contains a sealing mastic I" wide x W' thick. The sealer strap, once applied, is held firmly in place by a standard Socking aluminum band .020 inch thick.
USES:
UNl'CtAD is recommended tor applications up to 1500F, for power plants, refineries, chemical and petrochemical plants as well as other industries where weatherability, ruggedness, durability, and appear* anee are important factors.
UNI-CLAD offers savings on initial installation costs along with the ability to t>e removed and reused over and over again which minimizes future operation costs.
OPTIONAL JACKETING: Stainless Steel
Type 304, .010 gauge with polyethylene coated kraft moisture barrier--application and availability same as UNI-CUD.
Galvanized
Vinyl coated electro galvanized steel, .010 gauge with polyethylene vapor barrier--specifications and avail ability same as UNI-CLAD.

INSULATION MATERIAL:
Insulation shall be UNIBESTOS pipe insulation as manufactured by Pittsburgh Corning Corporation, and shaft be finished with a factory applied .016" (mini* mum) aluminum jacket with integral moisture bar* rier. Thickness of insulaSion shall be as recommended in UNIBESTOS Specifications (UN-3 25M 7/65).
APPLICATION:
The insulation shall be applied, with joints tightly butted, to dry pipe which has been cleaned to remove all dirt, grease, oil, and rust Sections of Insulation shall be sprung to pass over the diameter of the pipe, then squeezed together whileguidirig the smooth edge of the jacket into the pre-shaped companion groove. On large size piping, a temporary center band may be used to hold each section in place uoiii secured, On horizontal piping, the longitudinal joint shall be lo cated on the Sower half of the pipe and positioned so as to insure run-off ofwater.
Each butt joint shall be sealed using a 2" wide x
.016" preformed aluminum strap which contains a sealing mastic V wide x y*" thick. Each seal strap shall be held firmly in place by an aluminum band
020" thick xy2" wide. Where double layer insulation Is specified, the first
layer shall be applied with joints tightly butted and held in piece wit'} wire or banding on 12" centers, and the outer layer applied in the same manner as single layer construction.
fnsufafion at fittings shall be applied as per stand ard UNIBESTOS procedure and shall be finished using either pre-formed fitting covers of the same material and thickness as adjacent piping or fiefd fabricated covers of the same or suitable finish material. Pre formed covers shall be sealed in the same manner as the straight piping.
Where pipe is supported or suspended by hangers, roller guides, etc., on the outside of the insulated surface, a pre-formed plate of sufficient si2e and thickness to carry and distribute the load shall be placed between the aluminumjacket and each hanger,
roller guide, etc.
