When I think of the many experiments I have con ducted with persons in poisonous gases, and especially test ing gas masks in concentrations of hydrogen sulphide and hydrogen cyanide as high as 2 per cent by volume, incidents of the kind that happened in your laboratory make me shudder on one hand and give thanks on the other for the good luck I have had. Hydrogen sul phide is a very treacherous gas and I am sure that the acci dent was in no way influenced by carelessness on Mr. Thamann's part or on the part of anyone else. I have done so much work on the accidents from this gas that I can easily visualize how a serious accident could happen to a very careful person.
