carcinogen Registration Form and Handling of Carcinogens Cal-OSHA
Code: 1.665
Dear Mr. Vroman:
Attached is a Carcinogen Registration Form that must be sent in to the Industrial Safety Division of Cal-OSHA. Please review and comment.
The only carcinogen that most Linde plants are exposed to is asbestos.
Title 8, Section 5208, Section C would apply for those locations that use hot piping insulation containing asbestos fibers. Section C, Work Practices, says in general that this material must be handled wet.
Mr. F. Humphreys, Jr. of the Cal-OSHA Concord office stated that if such insulation on piping is exposed with outer protective cover off or torn, that area must be repaired while wet, or must be kept wet until repaired.
Also, asbestos scrap must be collected wet and disposed in sealed impermeable (plastic) bags or containers. Further disposal must be in a Class A dump site.
This also brings up the asbestos content of Durabla gasket materials and the questions of handling per OSHA and Cal-OSHA.
