1nterviewed Harry Scharf - Plant Manager
Call made on carload customer of SG-210 for tape joint compounds. Scharf is the former Marietta plant manager vho brought in this new GP plant ahead of schedule. They have taken in two carloads since late February and canned their first mud the first week in March. They are running one shift seven days a week and behind on their orders. March's production ran 370,000 lbs. of mud. According to Scharf, all the GP plants are about 21 days behind on . orders due to a shortage of raw materials mainly limestone. This plant is trying to go to a second shift but finding people is a- problem. Scharf is doing all the training for his present shift personnel as he started from scratch without any experienced people. Their goal is to eventually get to three full shifts like Marietta; the plant capacity for Milford being equal to Marietta's. Marietta cans an average of 1.6 MM lbs/month of mud and uses about a carload a month of 210. At the present one shift rate, Milford will use a carload every three months. When they get to two shifts, by fall according to Scharf, it will be a car every other month and then three shifts, or full capacity, possibly by year end, a carload a month.
HBR Harry asked if we would do a count for them here as we did in Marietta and I told him we would schedule it just as soon as we had our man in the area. Harry knows Ed from the Marietta survey, so I see no reason for me to come'up again.
