Subject: Fiberglas 600 series vs. 700 series board
Dear Ben: As you know, back in 1967 we phased out our 600series Fiberglas board products. This was done because of a new glass process we developed that result in a superior product to the old. The 700 series board is tougher, more damage resistant, better appearing and has a better insulation value.
For the purpose of comparison, we have prepared a table to help our customers choose a 700 series product where they used to use 600 series. You will note that where 614 was used we recommend type 703. It has a slightly lower compressive strength but a better k value than the 614. If I can be of any further assistance, please call on me.

Re: American Smelting < Refining Co 1970 Cottrell Addition El Paso, Texas
Gentlemen:
Vie propose to use Owens-Corning Piberglas Corporation's Industrial Insulation Type 703, 2" thick, to insulate specified areas on the above referenced project. In accordance with our conversation of October 2, 1970, we are submitting Industrial Insulation, Type 703 in lieu of the specified Owens-Corning Piberglas Corporation's Type PP-614.
Since vie are Owens-Corning Piberglas Corporation's distributors, we are aware that Type PF-614 is no longer manufactured. We contacted Owens-Corning Piberglas for their recommended equal to Type PF-614. In their letter of October 2, 1970, they state that Piberglas 600 Series has been phased out in favor of the superior 700 Series. They also sent us a comparison table, referred to in the letter, which recommends Type 703 where Type 614 was once used. 'We are en closing a copy of both the letter and the comparison table from Owens-Corning Piberglas Corporation, and some product data.
We hope our proposed submittal as recommended by the Manufacturer will be acceptable to you. If you need additional information of any kind, please advise us. We appreciate the opportunity to work with you on this project.
Respectfully submitted

uses
description
The 700 Series boards have been designed primarily to insulate heating and air conditioning ducts, ovens, tanks, boilers, hot water generators and other hot equipment.
type 700 -- a low cost flexible material suitable for insulating factory-fabricated metal panels and for packing into irregular spaces
type 701 --A lightweight'resilient insulation, in board form, used on vessels having irregular surfaces where the exterior finish is supported by welded studs, pins or other mechanical attachments
type 702--More rigid than 701 and is recommended for use on equipment and ductwork subject to minmum maintenance and construction abuse
type 703 -- A semi-rigid board recommended for use on equipment, vessels and air conditioning ductwork.
Fiberglas * 700 Series Industrial Insulations are made of inorganic glass fibers pre-formed into semi-rigid to' rigid rectangular boards of varying densities. The series consists of Type 700, 701, 702, 703, 704 and 705. Each type has specific thermal and physical characteristics which makes it suitable for the uses described. Type 703, 704 and 705 are available with a variety of factoryapplied vapor-barrier facings to prevent condensation on cold surfaces and to provide a neat finished appear ance. Fire Retardant Facings are available.
type 704 --A rigid board recommended for use on heating and air conditioning ductwork in exposed areas where sharp, true corners and smooth surfaces are desired.
type 705-^-A rigid board with very high strength char acteristics for use on chillers, hot and cold equipment, heating and air conditioning ductwork where greater abuse resistance and good appearance is required.
_______ benefits [
lower operating costs -- the exceptional thermal efficiency of Fiberglas 700 Series Insulations lowers operating costs.
end-use tailored -- a variety of densities and facings offers a selection of products to meet specific per formance and economic requirements.
continuous in-place performance-- 700 Series resists
damage, maintains structural integrity and efficiency. Thickness stays uniform.
neat, finished appearance--the boardlike character istics of the heavier density 703, 704 and 705 products provide neat square corners. The factory-applied facings present an attractive finished appearance.
fire safe--Fiberglas is inherently fire safe. The un faced boards and the Aluminum Foil Faced 703, 704 and 705 have UL Flame Spread ratings of less than 25.

application recommendations
Type 700, 701, 702 -- Lightweight unfaced flexible insulations in board form for use on vessels having irregular surfaces where the exterior is supported by welded studs or stiffeners and not by the insulation itself. The products are self-sup porting but are generally secured with mechanical fasteners and protected by sheet metal.
Type 703, 704, 705 --These board insulations are normally impaled on welded pins on flat surfaces. The/ are cut in segments and banded in place on irregular surfaces. Unfaced boards are normally finished with reinforced insulating cement or weatherproof mastic. Faced boards, with joints taped to provide a continuous vapor barrier, may be left unfinished or may be canvas jacketed.
