Best regards, Cabinet of Commissioner Thierry Breton Ref. Ares(2024)5185730 - 17/07/2024 Sent: Thursday, February 29, 2024 6:59 PM To: CANTON Joan (CAB-BRETON) <Joan.CANTON@ec.europa.eu> Cc: Subject: Honeywell meeting request - 19 or 20 March Dear Joan, I trust this email finds you well. I am writing to you with respect to the universal Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)restriction proposal, currently being reviewed by ECHA. will be visiting Brussels from 19-20 March and in this regard, we would kindly like to request a meeting with you to share Honeywell's views on the proposal and the potential impact on the wider EU economy especially from a trade perspective. Honeywell is a global manufacturer and importer of various fluorinated gases to the EU, including hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) and hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerants and their mixtures (blends), primarily used in refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (RHVAC). We have a history of supporting European business partners to meet the challenges of climate change, security, and digitalization across three main business segments - automation, the future of aviation, and the energy transition. We are concerned about the EU regulatory process to potentially regulate thousands of diverse PFAS as a single class and would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with you. Specifically, we are concerned that this regulatory process: Ignores the diversity of PFAS and their various applications, as well as evidence that particular substances (including HFOs/HFCs and PCTFE produced by Honeywell) are safe, deliver important societal benefits (including significant contributions to EU Green Deal climate goals) and are already regulated for their intended uses. 1 Disregards industry and business concerns about proportionality, enforceability, socioeconomic impact, lack of viable alternatives and risk of unforeseen supply chain disruptions. would be very keen to discuss this in more detail with you during this visit. We appreciate your consideration of this request and look forward to hearing from you. EU Transparency Register: 75311753240-67 2
