Dear Dir: V/e wish, to express our appreciation for the courtesy that was extended to our Mr. D. F. McElhattan, when he called on you recently to discuss the MSA Carbon Monoxide Indicator. Mr. McElhattan has requested that we forward to you copy of our literature describing this instrument, along with a quotation on the indicator and replacement material; these are included. he believe that you will find the Carbon Monoxide Indicator to be an extremely valuable instrument. This is the only portable self-contained instrument that is capable of detecting very minute concentrations of carbon monoxide, which are now recognized as toxic. As you no doubt recall, tests with this instrument can be made quite simply. As Me McElhattan has undoubtedly explained to you, carbon monoxide indicators are available in two types, the selfcontained Edison battery, making the operation entirely independ ent. of connections with-outside source of electrical energy, or for operation from any outside source of six volts alternating or direct current. Undoubtedly for your work the former type of instrument would be most convenient for tests to be made without the necessity of either making electrical connections, thus con fining the tests to the area which could be reached with an electrical extension, or without the necessity of carrying a separate battery. Mr. McElhattan has requested that we advise you how many tests a dehydrating canister and hopcalite fill lasts in the carbon monoxide indicator. This is difficult to state unless (2) we assume some definite length of time for each test. If we assume that eabh test will require ten minutes, then with a useful life of twenty hours, the dehydrating canister will be satisfactory for 120 tests. Ilopcalite, whose useful life is eight hours would thus be usable for 48 tests* The selling price of the dehydrating canister used with the carbon monoxide indicator is 22.50 each, F.G'.B.
