FULL KETTLE FLUSH SYSTEM - OPERATING PROCEDURE Considerable attention must be given to cleaning out all loose adhering polymer before proceeding with the water charging of the next batch. Residual polymer will result in high, out-of-spec fisheye level. A. Shut dbwn slurry dump pump and close dump valve, V-10, NOTE: Leave diaphragm valve, V-9 open. B. Overflow System 1. Kettles 91 through 94 (See Diagram #1). a. Make sure TCE valve, V-8, and valves V-7, V-7A, and V-7B leading to vacuum and suspending agent lines are closed. b. Open water overflow valves V-5 and V-6. 2. Kettles 95 through 98 (See Diagram #2). a. Make sure valves V-7 and V-8 leading to TCE and suspending agent lines are closed. b. Open water overflow valves V-5 and V-6 C. Kettle Filling 1. Kettles 92, 93 and 94 with Condenser Operating (Diagram #1) a. Make sure that no other kettles in either 92 or 88 Building are being filled with flush water. (Check red light on right side of the control panel). Close manhole and secure with 4 dogs. b. Check to make sure that valve V-2 leading directly from the water line to the kettle is closed. c. Open condenser flush valves V-12 and V-13. (Valve V-13 is opened and closed by a switch on the right side of the control panel). d.' Turn on flush water charge pump. (Start-Stop switch on right side of control panel). After the kettle is full, close condenser flush valves, V-12 and V-13, and agitate the kettle for 10 minutes. 2. All Kettles Operating Without Usi of the Condensers a. Make sure that no other kettles in either 92 or 88 Building are being filled with flush water. (Check red light on right side on control panel.), b. Check to see that condenser flush valve V-12 is closed. Check also that vent valve V-3 is closed. c. Open kettle flush valves, V-l and V-2. Turn on-flush water charge pump. Kettle Dumping (All Kettles) 1. Check to see that neighboring kettle is not dumping. 2. Make sure that water overflow valves V-5 and V-6 remain open to relieve vacuum caused by dumping. 3. Open drain valve V-ll and dump valve V-1Q. Stop the agitator when the water level reaches the blades. 4. While the kettle is draining, check for any remaining resin (domes, baffle tips, agitators). If any remains, wash down with high pressure water. 5. When the kettle is empty, close dump and drain valves, V-10 and v-ll. Close overflow valve V-6.,. E. Turn jacket set point to 60C. ' F.
