2. Condition of scaffold boards.
This suggestion pertained to the accumulation of grease and other foreign matter on scaffold boards that creates an unsafe condition when they are re installed for use. They also suggested that we enforce the use of scaffold which contains grit as an anti-skid material.

In connection with the first part of this suggestion, we plan an educational program as a means of eliminat ing the hazard of greasy boards. The Maintenance Supervisors have been informed of this suggestion and have been told to be especially observant of the condition of scaffold boards used in their areas.
An investigation of the present use of scaffold boards containing painted grit revealed that we have created a hazard in the handling of these boards because of the abrasive effect on the arms of the v carpenters. Wooden scaffold boards are heavy and

.can cause severe abrasion by handling. We are investigating other means to provide skid<-proof boards .-- thus far we have found aluminum boards available, made specially for use with Safeway scaffold. We now have twenty (20) of these on order.
3 . Condition of tires on mobile cranes.
This suggestion pointed out the hazard of a tire failure on a crane while In use. Specifically . pointing out the problem of failure 'due to age rather than the more noticeable problem of wear. We now Include tire inspection as a part of our . monthly Inspection on our heavy equipment. Particular attention will be given to signs of tire rot or stirface cracking.
In addition to the above items, several others were mentioned which were not a part of the Hourly Committee reports. In order to eliminate the hazard of truck transportation of Polyethylene^pers.onnel, our procedure calls for the use of our bus in all cases.
An investigation has started on the need of belly bands for
"
exchanger removal. Thus far one additional band has been placed
on order -- others may follow.
The hazard of the stores plate rack was placed in the hands of Prank Bates and Terry Grubbs. They have surveyed the problem but have not yet come up with a solution. Action will be taken during the week of August 3rd, when Bates is back from vacation.
