TA-C- 73-39S July 17, 1973 PURPOSE OF TEST: To demonstrate that a 50% increase in dryer capacity can be obtained by adding a third rack and placing them parallel to air flow instead of at right angles to it. TEST DETAILS: 1. Box out one dryer door six inches to provide space for third rack. 2. Place three racks of material in this dryer parallel to air flow. 3. Dry a typical one-day dryer; i.e., 1-amino--2,4-dibromoanthraquinone in a two-rack and a new three-rack dryer. Compare the amount and dryness . of the material dried in a two-rack dryer versus three-rack dryer during a five-day period. 4. Repeat Step 3, using a two-day dryer, i.e., "Sevron" Yellow R, for a ten-day period. RESULTS OF TEST : The test was successful. Five thousand one hundred and twelve pounds of 1-amino-2,4-dibromoanthraquinone was dried in the three-rack dryer versus 3,375 lbs. for the two-rack dryer. This was a 51% increase. The % moisture on all racks was nil. Six thousand five hundred and ten pounds of "Sevron" Yellow R was dried in the three-rack dryer versus 4,397 lbs. This is a 48% increase.
