NewFields has an engineer on site inspecting the berms on a daily basis. His contact information is: David Tooke dtooke@newfields.corn_____ NewFields | Missoula, MT |c {___ Ex. 6__ Ex. 6 NewFields has recently conducted a berm stability evaluation that is complete except for the LIDAR data. Sampling of the berm materials shows the berm to be constructed of "clean" materials. The former cooling ponds behind the berm are empty. There may be approximately 6 inches of sediment in the bottom of the ponds. Recent sampling of the pond sediment shows levels of arsenic, manganese, and dioxins at low concentrations but above background. The current flow in the Clark Fork River is at 42,700 cubic feet per second today (USGS Station 12353000). On May 18,1997, the flow was recorded at approximately 55,000 cubic feet per second, and Sierra Club v. EPA 18cv3472 NDCA Tier 10 ED 002061 00091113-00002 the water was still 8-10 feet below the top of the berms at that time. The EPA Remedial Project Manager was on site Tuesday and observed the water level well below the top of the berms. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you require additional information. We will send updates as they are available.
