1 MftnTilXe flooring Division -- July 19/ 1963 uL Meeting vith Don Ebert Cocsacntary on J-M Operations At your request, ve have held a meeting vith Dob Ebert and asked for his comments concerning lfenville as yell as other plant J-M flooring operations. This meeting vas attended by A. V. Macrae, C- J. Bergert and Byself. She most serious problem facing Johns-ffanrille Flooring Division in the manufacturing area is, in Mr. Ebert* s opinion, color variation as a result of the use of multiple sixers. Don feels that the problem is serious at all plant locations and will at best b extremely difficult to control vith a multiple sixer eyetea. A major ; advantage can be obtained through use of a single sixer -- Banbury type operation. Don stated that ve might vail attain improved recovery and lover product cost through increased binder content in our product. Be definitely felt that vith tbs low Intensity mixers ve are utilising that any. further reduction in binder content vould not be desirable. Ve discussed roll crowns. Don andfedy agree that a 4*r crovn is desirable on the first calendar and that no crovn should be used on the eeccnd and third calendars. Colonial Sugar does not use chromed rolls; Based on his observations he believes that a chromed roll vould he desirable for then on the third calendar but he definitely vould not suggest their use on the first and second calendar, sis say be a desirable move for us to sake. The autosBated-iSicSaSttSo^ system used by Colonial Bugar is believed "far superior to our Banna! Consistency of veifiht is better. Products control as a result'ia^^ &v All plants ' epjear^tefhave ^difficulty in applying and distributing vax to the tile. Ve discussed possible *eans'of accomplishing this. Bone of the methods observed at any of our plants appear to have any great merit. 003195- Dl-obiso WV-04617 1 D. HiUler - DHft-r Meeting ulth xfcglbert*'' V -2- July 19, 19S3 Don stated that the tenville Plant appears to have excessive steaa blisters in their Terraflex splash ahead of the first calendar and that our temperature of operation is approximately 10 - 15 degress lover than tbst found at any other location- Further, he feels\tha4t* the JfenviUe FUat has the most porous mix. A statement vas mde that the flat bed press at ChiUicothe is desirable, but that a tremendous amount of vork has been done to accomplish such poor control of the sheet and the frame. The rubber belt in use on the buffers at Chillicotbe is desirable to that the tile cannot be stretched as a result of the buffing action. The above is a brief synopsis of our areas of discussion. G.
