EPA ED 001523B 00006081-00009 Fly-in as you requested last week. I may call you about those items I sent you last week to follow up as well. As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Respectfully, A.J. Ferate Please see attached our agenda for the Fly-In in June. Should Administrator Pruitt be available Tuesday morning June 20, we would slot the "Changes at ERA on Regulations - What Does it Mean for the Metalcasting Industry?" in at either 10:15 am or f 1:00 am in place of one of those panels. If the Administrator cannot join us - we would be delighted to have Samantha for the 7:30 am Breakfast Session keynote slot on June 21. You can see from the agenda what the other topics are of interest to our members and the caliber of speakers we have lined up so far. As we have discussed, the American Foundry Society represents the U.S. metalcasting industry - the sixth-largest industry sector in America and the second largest supplier of castings in the world, after China. Metal castings are integral to virtually ail U.S. manufacturing activities - especially national defense, energy and infrastructure. In the U.S., castings are used to produce 90% of all manufactured durable goods and nearly all manufacturing machinery. The American metalcasting industry provides employment for over 200,000 men and women directly and supports thousands of other jobs indirectly. Our energy-intensive, trade-exposed industry supports a payroll of more than $9 billion and sales of more than $30.3 billion annually. Metalcasting plants are found in every state, and the industry is made of predominately small businesses, with 80% of domestic metalcasters having fewer than 100 employees. 17cv01906 Sierra Club v. EPA ED 001523B 00006081-00010 Foundries are the mainstay of national defense. All sectors of the U.S. military are reliant on metal castings for jet fighters, ships, tanks, trucks, weapon systems and other vital operations. In fact, the U.S. Department of Defense has established formal programs to convert fabricated components to single piece castings, improving our military's ability to cost-effectively produce such equipment in the least amount of time. Metalcasting is one of the most energy-intensive industries in the U.S. Approximately 55% of its energy costs are consumed in melting. Mold making, core making, heat treatment, and post-cast operations also use significant energy. As such, the sector has been particularly hard hit by the regulatory overreach from ERA over the last eight years. The American Foundry Society (AFS) is the major trade and technical association for the North American metalcasting industry. The association has more than 8,000 members representing over 2,000 metalcasting firms, their suppliers and customers. We will have about 150 owners, CEOs and executives in Washington for the Fly-In over those two days. Energy and enthusiasm among the attendees will be very high with the new Administration in place in Washington. Thanks again for your help Stuart. Best. 17cv01906 Sierra Club v.
