STD/20 Region II Information Memorandum #78-501 To Clarify National Office Policy as it Relates to the Enforcement of Paragraph 29 CFR 1910.1001(1) for Asbestos. , I1** /?^ TM do'AC Region II Area Directors ''V t Current OSHA policy as it relates to paraagraph 29 CFR 1910. 1001 (j) is as follows: Medical examinations will be required only when employee exposures to airborne asbestos exceed 0.1 fibers greater than 5 microns in length per cubic centimeter of air (f/cc greater than 5 microns) on an 8-hour time weighted average (TWA) basis or exceed a peak level of 0.5 f/cc greater than 5 microns based on 15 minute sample periods. The above is relative to the memorandum dated December 19, 1977 and sent by Donald MacKenzie to all Area Offices (a copy of which you should have received) .
