Present were Jim Main, representing Fllntkote, Frank Zimmerman, representing National Gypsum Company, Cliff Sheckler and Fred Ingham, representing Johns-Manvllle and Paul Kipp repre- ; sentlng U.S.G. At this meeting, I discussed the information I had received from the Defense Research Institute. It appeared to the Committee that the Defense Research Institute had nothing to offer us in the asbestos field and there was no particular purpose in our taking out a membership. It was felt that if any applicator were sued relative to the use of asbestos that he would Involve one of our member companies who would see that an adequate defense was made up for the client. At the request of Jim Main, Cliff Sheckler discussed the operation of the Environmental Committee of the Asbestos Textile Institute of which he is Chairman. The Environmental Committee handles legislation and litigation matters, among other things. All legislative matters pass over Cliff's desk and he then Bees that any pertinent matters are brought to the attention of the Institute or the members of the Environmental Committee. He Indicated he would be glad to send information in this area -on to Jim Main, who would then send It on to me for evaluation and dissemination to other members of the Health and Safety Council. Ve also discussed Bulletin No. 8-69 entitled Current Federal Workmen's Compensation and Health and Safety Legislation published by the Industrial Hygiene Foundation of America. This publications is received monthly by Jim Main. It was agreed that this particular publication had nothing in it that was of- particular interest to' us as members of the Asbestos Cement Products Association but we are Interested In it as members of other Associations - such as, the Chamber of Commerce, The State Manufacturers Association, etc. This will be considered another source of information on legis lation that Is pending.
