York Roy and Joe first discussed their great interest in the RG-244 and are greatly surprised that it's use isn't larger than the approx. 900# per month they are using now. 1971 Roy was told of the various normal safety respiratory devices to be used in han( ling the Calidria safely. Dennis York, the Plant Safety Engineer, needs information to satisfy the APCD, This should be similar to that published by Cabot. Union Carbide will soon be publishing information that he could submit the Lo6 Angeles APCD. He was also told that Asbestosis and Silicosis were equally dangerous if proper safety precautions were not taken. The allowable dust levels per cu. ft. were discussed and how to assure safe handling in this respect by proper respiratory equipment and air ventilation. Call made with R. Larkin and R. Jack also said that he has to use more RG-244 than he should to get his vis and thix index. Their lab is awaiting a Cowles mixer so a 2 drum batch can be made. We alsc discussed their use of 1/4 Cabosil or a touch of Ti0- to get the necessary appearance in the resin that their customers are accustomed to see. Hank will try both of these methods in other than new products. We told Hank and Jack of the growing interest and sales totals of RG-244 and the were quite interacted, knowing the savings Involved. Barretine Recently a follov up call was nade on Mr. Darrentine regarding RG 244. He Idvlsad teat the Oxnard plant vas still not operating as they bsd expected it would because of larger parts for dispersing equipaent that have still not been received from General Electric. Vhen these parts are received and they are in production, RG 244 will be given a trial run at this plant. Mr. Barrentine stated that his tests have shown the pre-vet has been better using RG 244 when coopared with the Pyrogenics. As they should definitely be using oar materiel, it would now be advisable for soaeone from our San Marino office to call on Mr. Gordon Johnson at DisnonJ-Sasnrock's Oxnard plant. Frank Curt, the plant engineer, needs all the info he can get regarding the various respiratory aids, ventilation and dust arrestors which are necessary when using Asbestos or Silicas. Their production area has no adequate ventilation or draft. Bcb Byrne will send to him compiled data on all these facte. Curt has a complete engineering job to do for this plant. We discussed Asbectoeis o and SillcoalB and how they were not related to Cancer in proper usage and that RG-244 was Chrysotile and cot Chrysolite Asbestos. John Frank discussed viscosities and asked how stable our RG-244 would keep the product and hrsscc. he was assured that it would bo much better than Cabosil. Other advantages over Silicas and its superior wetting and less duct pollution were also pointed out to them. PPG needs the go-ahead from their Springdale Lab to go ahead with producing Calidria Polyesters in this plant. Zaske Leon and Oscar discussed the various viscosities as reported by U.C. in the letter of Sept, 2, It was learned that these results were low because no additive (Glycol) was added to the sample while it is in Silmar1 s comparable Cobosil resin, Oscar wants a less settling out thixotrope and is conducting tests now using xa various additives in his Cabosil resins. He believes his results are quite favorable to date. We told them that 6ales proved the success of others in Calidria Polyester resins and they should also be able to achieve this, Oscar asked U,C. for a gallon of Sonolated resin with RG-244 in it so Leon can put it in a 6tand tube and check it for settling over a period of time. Bob Byrne will have this done and send the sample to Oscar after he returns to the East.
