BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
April 24, 1956
A meeting of the Board of Directors of the Lead Industries Association was held on Tuesday, April 24, 1956, at The Statler Hotel, St. Louis, Missouri.

The meeting was called to order at 4:30 P.M., with Mr. Fletcher in the chair.
The chairman asked for nominations for the chairmanship of the Board of Directors for the coming year. Mr. Fletcher was renominated and elected chair man.
The minutes of the previous meeting of December 5, 1955 were approved.
REPORT OF THE TREASURER
The report of the treasurer covering the period January 1 to March 31, 1956, was presented and ordered placed on file. Attached as Exhibit nA.M

The secretary explained that the Metal Powder Association at its annual meet ing two weeks previously had decided definitely to set up its own office and staff. He also explained that it had left the separation date up to the secretary of the Lead Industries Association so that the L.I.A. would be inconvenienced as little as possible and that the secretary had informed them that July 1, at which time the Association*s office would be moved, would be satisfactory. He also pointed out that the Metal Powder Association had engaged the services of Mr. Kempton H. Roll

The treasurer was questioned as to how the L.I.A. would make out financially with the loss of the $16,000 annual revenue from M.P.A. He replied that he believed the staff could be rearranged so that the association could live within its means.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
The chairman stated that it was in order to elect officers of the association, whereupon the following were nominated, seconded and unanimously elected:

RECOMMENDATIONS OF TECHNICAL STEERING AND INDUSTRY
DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEES

The recommendation of the Technical Steering and Industry Development Committees with respect to radiation shielding was next considered. Attached as Exhibit "B."
Mr. Martino asked that final action be withheld until he had an opportunity to
discuss the matter with Dr. Alex. Stewart of the National Lead Company, who had ap- f_
parently been largely responsible for the form of recommendation.

It was decided to follow this procedure and to bring the matter up at the next meeting of the Executive Committee.
MEMBERSHIP--------- THE EDLOW LEAD COMPANY
The secretary presented the application for membership received from The Edlow
Lead Company, 729 Bank Street, P.O.Box 1936, Columbus 16, Ohio, for action. He read a letter explaining in detail the operations of this Company and it was generally agreed that the Company was eligible for membership under the Association^ Consti tution and By-Laws. Membership was unanimously approved.
1957 ANNUAL MEETING
Although it was appreciated that the dates for the 1957 meeting at The Drake Hotel in Chicago would conflict with the annual meeting of certain member companies, it was decided to approve the April 24-26 dates, in view of the AZI having already expressed-approval.
PENSION PLAN
Although it was appreciated that there was some advantage in having the provisions of the LIA Pension Plan conform with those of the AZI, it was decided to postpone any action on the change that had been adopted by the American Zinc Institute because a similar specific condition did not exist at this time in the I2A.
The treasurer was ordered to place the LIA Pension Fund in separate savings accounts.

In 1955# $2,500 was appropriated from the Industry Development Fund for a survey on nThe Atomic Energy field as a Market for Load0 by Walter Kldria Nuclear
Laboratories, Inc* This survey was completed and a report made to the Association and circulated to the members*
Walter Kidde also submitted a proposal for a further and more detailed survey, at a cost of approximately $12,000. This proposal was submitted to the Technical Stoering Committee, which made the following recommendation, at a meet ing on February 23, 1956t
nIt was; thorefore, rogularly moved and seconded that the Committee recommend that the Association omploy a man t-o gather information on how lead is boing used in tho atomic industries currently, what problems have to be facod, what information about lead is needed by tho atomic industries. - and prepare bulletins based on tliia information for wico circulation throughout the atomic industries and the mem bership; further that this man should be BQn clearod and that a consultant, such as Dr* Iyle Borst, bo engaged so
that the staff member might consult with him from time to
