Dear Dr. Kehoe: I have read through your series of papers on normal lead with the greatest interest and have been much impressed with the tremendous amount of labor involved. V/ith respect to the question of lead ingestion and excre tion in amounts beyond spectrographic traces (or, let us say, in amounts greater than 0.1 milligram) I have no bias either for or against, but am solely concerned with the truth. Since you follow the same general analytical pro cedure that 1 do down to the point at which the lead is precipitated as chromate, and since whatever modifications you have added are clearly not in the direction of increas ing the accuracy of recovery of lead, I am somewhat at a loss to understand why such large amounts of lead in normal people should have escaped our observation. I believe that it is a matter of such importance that it is my duty and your duty to make a series of de terminations together on split samples from various indi viduals with and without the addition of known amounts of lead to the sample. I therefore wish to extend to you a cordial invitation to visit our laboratory and run through a few determinations with normal subjects. I shall be only too happy to provide lead-free reagents and such new glassware and apparatus as may be necessary. ' This should settle the differences in our respective findings and allow us to make a clear-cut statement with regard to normal lead.
