Recent information suggests PCBs may be accumulating in the environment. A copy of an article pub lished in the 20th November 1971 issue of "Chemistry and Industry" is enclosed, which gives some background details of the situation as it has developed. Some of the AROCLOR range of products (AROCLOR 1221, 12j2,1242 1240, 1254, 1260, 1262, 1268 and 4465) contain PCBs and, ' because of Monsanto's concern over the pollution problem, we have decided to stop supplying these products for use in lubricant additives, cutting oils and in other open system applications as from the date of this letter. This decision has been taken to avoid problems that could well occur should there be accidental leakages of AROCLOR. Monsanto is taking this action only after very careful consideration of the question of environmental pollution and believes this decision is in the best interest of all its customers who are using these products.
