All employees are given a copy of this book at the time the- are employed and required to read it and understand it. This card Is made a part of the employees^ersonal record at Ponca, City Okl. This book covers tank cleaning operations very completely. Ge ral tank cleaning instructions are found on page 19. On page 102 there is a statement that refers- them to our rules and regulations on cleaning of tanks that have been used for the storage of leaded gasoline. for This company holds annual safety contoo ,3 giving prize best personal and group records. Smith, refinery super' ntendent, assures me that if they have an occasion to clean a tank that has been used for Leaded gasoline that our regulations will be followed, hen will wear regulation Ethyl blending clothing. Tanks will be steamed 'until hey are gas free as indicated by use of j. .I. Gas Indicator. They will be allowed to air' unt3.HL.cool which runs ' p to 48 hours depending on on size of tank. y In addition to our regulations being followed as to use of air line masks and clothing, a plate will be removed on oppisite sides of tank to allow ventilation and a means of exit in case of fire. This is a standard rule with Continental on all tank cleaning operations. kith tanks that have not been used for leaded gasoline, the above precauti on clothing will not be followed. Clothing will be up to each man engaged in the work. Air line masks will onl- be worn when it is impossible to" free tanks of gas. If there Is-no ga3 present but condltlons are dusty cone type masks or filters will be worn.
