Dear Bob!
Thank you very *ueh for your letter of July 24, 1944-, with reference to uy circular letter of July 13. I feel that you and I are in fairly complete agreesent on the issues involved, although I do not balleve that the one issue which you raise ie under consideration at this tiae, naaely, the cooperation between the industrial physicians and hygienists.
At you know, X for one, very auch like yourself, have striven all these year* to bring about a close working relationship between the non-nedical and aedical grotps in our profession. X have done so at tiaes at the risk of having ay noa-aedical colleagues tell ns that I was deserting the cause of the engineers and others. This X have done beenuse X realise that industrial hygiene ie not a one profession activity.
X hava always fait that joint nestings between our groups were not only desirable, but qnlte necessary. However, you will have to agree that the issue at stake this year is not a deslra on anyone's part to have the physicians go one way and we another, but simply that sons of us feel that the ooanereial phases of our joint nestings have cone to dominate the conferences to a point whare the tail is wagging the dog. Xn other words, the cleavage ie not between the hygienists and the physicians, but between the hygienists and the oeaaercial interests.
At the present tine out of a total vote of 15 of the Board of Directors, five favor a joint nesting and five favor a separate nesting:. X have no doubts as to the final results in ths balloting sines X feel that a majority of the five members still to be heard from will probably favor a joint meeting.
X an sending a copy of thle letter to Xd Hoinblad,. frost whoa X have not heard at all of late. X have heard indirectly, however, fro* a adaeographed announcement X saw the other day on Dr. Townsend's dssk that ths physicians are going ahead and planning a joint nesting with the nurses at ths Drake Hotel in Chicago during this week of April 23*
