Sony to reach out early, but there's a pressing matter where it looks like Region 9 is holding up coordination on an existing Federal Response Action until HQ review. You may have heard about a utility scale battery fire near Monterey, California. It's out, and the site owner (Vistra Corp) is working with EPA on a surface sampling and response plan. Air quality monitoring shows no issues, but sampling completed and provided to EPA yesterday shows elevated levels of certain metals. Vistra is eager to co-ordinate quickly with EPA on next steps. The Region told Vistra last night that it was pausing any additional involvement on response efforts until the NFRA was discussed with EPA HQ, which it said could take a week or longer. The company really wants to move forward on this in coordination with the Region, has been transparent with the public as to the site, but a standstill of a week or more would be problematic.
