However, I have little information further than that I gave Dr. Horton. Your proposal was discussed by the A.M.A. Vehicle Combustion Products Subcommittee and the opinion was ex pressed that the medical people of the several companies involved should be consulted. This was done on an infor mal basis, and there was some lack of enthusiasm on the part of some of the people contacted. Meantime, Dr. Charles Hine approached the Vehicle Combustion Products Subcommittee to invite industrial hy giene and medical representatives of the automobile manu facturers to a meeting of the Subcommittee on Atmospheric Pollutants of the Medical Advisory Committee to the American Petroleum Institute, The committee met during the week of April 21, in St. Louis, at which time the automobile representatives were advised that the API had set aside a fund to conduct a survey of the literature. We were advised that when this has been completed they ex pect to survey and appraise research projects in progress and propose additional research in which they would wel come the participation and support of the automobile manu facturers and the railroads. The API group agreed to present in writing a proposal to be brought to the attention of the Automobile Manufac turers Association, but to date no written material has been forthcoming and no commitments have been made.
