ClfZ& CHEMICAL MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION January 7, 1981 Russell Park Firestone Plastics Company Research Division P.0. Box 699 Pottstown, Pennsylvania 19464 Dear Mr. Park: As you are aware, the Chemical Manufacturers Associa tion (CMA) is planning to conduct an industry sponsored update of a vinyl chloride epidemiology study. An ad hoc group of vinyl chloride industry representatives met in Pittsburgh last November and finalized plans for the study. Firestone Plastics expressed interest in participating in this program and Mr. William F. Carroll, Jr. represented your company at the meeting. In early December commitment forms were sent to all interested U.S. manufacturers of vinyl chloride monomer and PVC resins. To date, CMA has received no reply from Firestone concerning formal commit ment to the program. I am aware that Firestone Plastics was recently pur chased by the Hooker Chemicals and Plastics Company and that this incorporation has probably led to some confusion in sorting out this type of request. CMA did receive a com mitment from Hooker Chemicals and Plastics, however, the pro rata share of the total production capacity noted was for Hooker, alone, and did not include Firestone's share of the market. For your information. Hooker's designated repre sentative on the program panel is Mr. Harold F. Dubec, Jr. and the management contact is Mr. Robert A. Katherine. Both persons list a Burlington, New Jersey address. I would appreciate this matter being brought to the attention of your new management. Every effort is being made to get this program underway, however, CMA cannot ne gotiate an agreement with the selected contractor until we have a sufficient commitment of funds. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, CMA 008017 Carol R.
