Wilson subject J o i n t Cem ent P r o d u c ts 1 A fl location location P o r t l a n d - date A u g u st 1 8 , 1976 In view of the continued pressure and the petition to the Consumer's Product Safety Commission to ban the use of asbestos in joint cement compounds, we want to spell out our program to all concerned, Thia Is basically what we are doing, although some changes In bag goods will be required. First, all products designed for the do-it-yourself trade, i.e. the 5-pound packages of dry products and 1-gallon Ready-Mix, will contain asbestos-free formulas. This program has been in effect and should not require any changes; however, if any plant has an inventory of these products that contains asbestos, it should be scrapped. We should use up any inventory of containers with asbestos warning labels by the use of "asbestos-free" labels to be placed over the warning on the container. , ,, Effective immediately, the only dry powder products in 25-pound or larger bags that will be sold will be casein products produced at Akron and Chicago. If you are producing any other bag goods with asbestos, you will eliminate this formula from your product line, and have Tigard issue you an asbestos-free replacement formula. You can ship your remaining inventory of finished produets, and we want to use the inventory of bags by the use of "asbestos-free" labels to be placed on the bags, We will continue to produce both asbestos and asbestos-free products in 4- and 5-gallon containers for applicators and work toward improvement of the asbestos-free product.
