The Air Toxics Unit of the Epidemiology Studies and Surveillance Section is conducting a risk assessment for vinyl chloride. Our goal is to recommend safe levels for ambient air exposures for the general population. In conducting such assess ments, we have in the past found the use of human quantitative data helpful for comparison with animal data. Therefore, we would like to request a computer tape with the following data for the worker cohort exposed to vinyl chloride and reported by Ott et al. (Arch Environ Health 19/5, 30:333-339) For each worker: date of first exposure age at first exposure length of time spent by that worker in each exposure category (high, medium, low) as defined in the published report (p. 336) dates spent by that individual in each job classification (indicating which production unit), as identified in Tables 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the published report vital status cause of death, if deceased date of death, if deceased R&S 029927 For the entire cohort: date of end of follow-up period average estimated exposure level (# ppm) for each exposure category for the entire cohort (if this was calculated) The documents we produce are submitted to the Air Resources Board. Public comm ents are invited. A scientific Review Panel reviews the documents and the comments by the public and makes recommendations.
