This was brought about as a result or studies MADE BY THE NATIONAL JNSTITUT+-ON F' OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH AND THE American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists stating that the ORIGINAL THRESHOLD LIMIT AS PUBLISHED IN THE OSHA STANDARDS OF POSED GRAVE DANGERS OF WORKERS CONTRACTING ASBESTOSIS (a DISEASE OF THE lung) and cancer. This emergency standard was replaced by a permanent STANDARD ON JULY 7t 197^* (COPY ATTACHED) WHICH IS VERY RESTRICTIVE. In view OF THIS STANOARD governing the use of asbestos, it is REQUESTED THAT ALL PLANTS TAKE THE FOLLOWING ACTION: A. An initial survey should be made to determine the existence of asbestos or products containing asbestos in each plant. Asbestos that is processed or fabricated by the plant should BE NOTED SUCH AS USE OF ASBESTOS"CONTA INING MORTAR AND REFRACTORIES, ASBESTOS PIPE INSULATION, ETC.
