Hearings are scheduled by NIOSH to begin on March 21, 1980, and are open for public comment. While VC is closely reg ulated, such regulation does not currently apply to PVC. Industry will potentially be asked to disprove the effect of particulate irritation of the lungs and allegations of carcinogenic effect of PVC which to date have not been neither proved or disproved. The burden of proof is now being shifted to industry, which potentially effects 7,500 other companies in the USA involved in the use of PVC.
