In compliance with Section C of the Consent Order between Monsanto Company and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management dated March 8, 1996, Monsanto Company identified and sampled an area designated by Monsanto as Area E in order to assess potential presence of PCBs. (Area E encompasses the residential property south of West 10th Street between Duncan Avenue and Parkwin Avenue.) The results of the analyses of those samples have been reported to ADEM in compliance with the Consent Order. To facilitate management and containment of the PCBs on our property and in areas near the Monsanto Anniston Plant, Monsanto has recently extended the Property Purchase Program to owners of residential properties in Area E, which is north of our plant. Owners of residential property in Area E will be able to sell their property, including both improved and vacant lots, to Monsanto at an appraised value plus an additional premium payment. The program also includes a bonus for early sign-up, a miscellaneous expense allowance, and other benefits. Renters in the area will also be eligible for a miscellaneous expense allowance and assistance in locating alternative rental housing.
