Blackpool, England / Dear Alec: I have checked into your question on tests for VC in air. Although you may already have most of this information, here is what I have to report. Please see attached bulletins. The Kitagawa gas detector would be ideal for in-plant use but the range is not what you want. We have written them for their advice on how to get below 500 ppm and will let you know if they have any useful information to impart. The Perkin-Elmer device would probably do the trick but (1) has a flame detector and could not be used in the plant and (2) would, require some calibration work to set it up for VC in this range. Vinyl acetate would also be an interference. Price of this instrument is in the range of $1,600. Alec, I would like to express to you and to all your associates our most sincere appreciation for everything you did for us in England. Thanks to your expertness, we feel we learned a tremendous amount in a very short time. We are also very grateful for the many r extra kindnesses provided for us by so many of you. To you personally, we are especially grateful for taking such good care of us and also for our memorable evening together. From now on, we shall always think twice before we try to kill two birds with one stone. Again, many, many thanks. Best regards, AJH:dsp Attachments -A J'f' A. It seems that in Doth countries we still do not have a rapid method of determining low concentrations of vinyl chloride in the atmosphere although to "be fair we should await the reply to your further enquiry to Kitagawa. This problem will remain with us and should you come across anything in the future may he you would let us know. 7ou may he wondering why I am replying to your letter. Alec Murray has just been promoted to Section Manager, "Corvic" in place of Nigel McCrea who has been promoted to another factory. Kindest regards, Tours faithfully, (J.S.
