The Texas City Railway Company's history dates to the original Texas City Improvement Company which built the first railroad, dredged the first channel to the port, installed utilities, and was the cornerstone of the industrial prosperity the area enjoys today.
Operating 24 miles of railroads, the company also leases or maintains the majority of Texas City's docks and serves as the port authoirty for the harbor.
The company currently employs 50 people. The port handles barges, and ships up to 1,000 feet in length and up to 150,000 DWT in capacity.
The port provides dockside & rail service to major industries such as Amoco, Union Carbide, & Sterling Chemical. Dry cargo facility is operated by AIMCOR.

Electric generating plants must condense the steam they use to drive turbine engines. Often, the heat energy of the steam is lost. By working together, petrochemical plants and electric companies can use this lost heat energy. This system is called Co-Generation.
