A spacious building lor the Chemical Hygiene Fellowship research group will be erected In the ne.r future. This Fellowship is sponsored by Union Carbide Chemicals Company tor the purpose of investigation of possible hazards of chemicals under develop ment by that organization and has been under the direction of Or. Henry F. Smyth, Jr., since 1937. Although most of the research is concerned with chemical products, the Fellow, ship has met increasing responsibilities tor products of the Silicones, Plastics, Metals, Linde, and Nudoar Divisions. The building will contain 30, 000 square feet, a substantial increase over the present space occupied by the Fellowship. It will be located about 20mlles east of Pittsburgh, near Mellon Institute's Bushy Run Laboratories, now under construction, which will house the Institute's recently established Department of Radiation Research. It la expected that thi; Chemical Hygiene building will be ready for occupancy by March, 1959. 703 Public Health Agency tor Industrial Chemicals. A technical Information service to help industry protect its workers from the health hazards arising from the great number of new chemicals introduced each year is being set up by the U. S. Public Health Service. Named the Occupational Health Informa tion Exchange, the agency will bring together a vase fund of unpublished information from scattered sources. An estimated 1,000 to 10, 000 new compounds are developed every year by industry, and this organization will fill the need of one central agency to supply information on their toxicity as well as the toxicity of older compounds and processes. 704 Course in Audiology for Industry. Colby College, Waterville, Maine, presents the Fifth Annual Course in Industrial Deafness, August 5-10, inclusive.. The objective of the cours.i will be to train personnel in initiating and conducting hearing conservation courses in noisy industries. Eight full-time instructors have been selected from authorities in this field. The class is limited to approx imately 20 participants.
