Dear Mr. Larrison: The following are the results of air-borne fiber determinations made
at the King"CIt~jr$ill and mine July 23, 24, 1973- The air samples were collected consecutively at the various locations indicated, and were either personal samples with the device worn by the operator, or general area samples for which the sampling device was set in selected locations at breathing height. The fibers were determined according to the recommended techniques. The weighted exposures or exposure potentials were calculated from the sampling times and fiber counts.

As you will note actual weighted exposures of personnel or potential exposures as might "be expected, for example,-in the shifters office were in all cases less than 5.0 fibers per milliliter of air. nevertheless, in areas involving dry operations personnel wore appropriate respirators. I recommend that this practice be continued until enough information is available that shows we are well within the existed limit of 5.0 fibers/ml and the soon-to-come limit of 2.0 fibers/ml.
For one interval during the activity of the bagger-loader operator in the standard grade area, the concentration of fiber exceeded 10/ml which I believe is an action point in the OSHA regulation even though the weighted average is less than 5 fibers/ml. I believe, you will wish to check in to this.
