Box 790 Deer Park, Texas 77536 Bet Shell Owner Controlled Program W 68^16 Dear Hr. Sedlaki Here is the Industrial Eygisna Report that was recently requastsd to oonflrm the results of air sampling that was done on February 18, 1977. These results were given to you by telephone on February 19, 1977. The samples ware cclleoted to determine the concentration of airborne asbestos fibers larger then 5 micons per cubic oentiffietor of air during the use of a portable electric oiroular sow to out 3' X 12" X 3/8" sheets of Transit#, a corrugated aiding made of 69$ Portland cement, 209^ asbestos, and 11J6 limestone. The Transits was out to else by a Montgomery Elevator employee, The work was done adjacent to the elevator shaft in BPA-3 unit. If you have eny questions regarding the sampling procedures, ths fibor counting, or the results. Just lot us know. Ercum (J uV Safety Engineer, on February T7 1977 to aid in efforts to provide Dac0 effective safety and health activities. a 1 j Samples were collected to measure the airborne concentrations of " C0 asbestos fibers, longer than 5 microns, per cubic centimeter of a2h air, to which employees might be exposed. e0C SAMPLING A EVALUATION METHODS J 6 Each sample way collected on a 37 millimeter Millipo.ro Type AA filter U mounted in on open-face filter holder. Each filter was contained in plastic holder and was supported on pads in the holder to aid in controlling the distribution of air as it passed through the filter. A Mine Safety Appliances Permissible Portable Pump, Model G, was used to pull a measured quantity of air through the filter. The filter holder was mounted about four feet above ground level in an effort to obtain a representative sample of the airborne concentration of asbestos fibers in the area. SAMPLING CONDITIONS C0 Q eU0 Sample ;7A-56 was collected at a point an average of six feet down wind from the saw as cuts were made in a sheet of transite. Wind velocity < uo was approximately q miles per hour. The temperature was 65 F. The cc ao c humidity was 70/6 and the bs.rometric pressure way 3-5 inches of mercury. A thirty liter sample was collected at the rate of 2 liters per minute. ctiDtl Sample -If A-59 was collected at a point an average of three feet downwind 0y aj from the point of operations. The weather conditions and sampling rate E and volume were the same as for sample // A-56. w a oX DISCUSSION OF RESULTS i<n5 X The airborne concentrations of fibers, longer than lJ microns per cubic h centimeter, in the samples collected v/^rc below the permissible exposure 0U. to an eight hour time-weighted average concentration and the coiling uu concentration as established by the Occupational Safety and Health, cn 29 CFR 1910.1001. aDmc A tabulation of the results is part of the import.
