DiLaura Edge Moor* AFFLAIR - EXPERIMENTAL LARGE FLAKE GOLD Confirming our conversations of 4/20 and 4/22, six small lots of SF-72 (large Flake Gold Afflair) totaling 4500 pounds Will be cal cined in the pilot unit kiln beginning Monday, April 27, 1964. G, Grimm, E. P. Klenke and the writer will follow the calcina tions around the clock for Newark Research and Technical Section. Following are the instructions for calcining this material: X. Cleanout Prior toStarfc A minimum "hole" of one hour at temperatures below 700 prior to starting feed of SF-72. No other purging of kiln is required. Peed to be stopped for l/2 hr. between lots. II. Kiln Conditions at Start 1. Peed rate - 30 lb, every 5 minutes, "as is" basis 2. 1 ft. temp. - 975C. at start 3. Lots to be fed in the following sequence: 175, 173, 176, 177, 178 and 179 III. Sampling "1. One composite (8 oz.) from each drum. 2. Special samples as requested by Technical Section. IV. Testing 1. Control Lab will calcine the Newark presscake composite from each lot at 875C., 900C., 925*C., 950C., 975C. Resistance measurements of the calcined samples will be plotted the same as regular "Afflair" products. 2. Acrylic drawdowns will be required on the lab calcined samples plus plant samples as requested until color control is demonstrated. J.A.Saunders has agreed that Edge Moor Technical Section lab assistants will perform drawdowns on shift. V.
