Kehoe, College of Liedieine;, University of Cincinnati, CINCINNATI. 25th August 1947 Dear Dr. Kehoe, Further to our letter of the 1st August, we have received a little none information in regard to the circumstances surrounding this case. The following is an extract from a recent letter from Dr. Blacl&urn: "kith regard to the two men who had T.E.L. poisoning, they are both now '.veil.: I intend to send Johnson bach to work next week and Kenna two iweeks after that, and I have no further worries about' them. Since my report to you for transmission to London I have learned more of the detail of their exposure. Kenna first went into the tank on the 19th June and proceeded to clean the "slime" and "sludge" from off the walls and fins inside the tank. He informs me that he wore rubber boots but does not like wearing gloves of any kind so did not wear the canvas gloves which were worn inside by Johnson. His method of;removing the "slime" and "sludge" was to scrape the metal with a piece of timber held in his hands and it was during this process that he got a number of abrasions on his hands. He remarked that The "fumes" were terrific. The next day he and Johnson both removed the "sludge" from the tank. Thus Kenna had considerably greater exposure than Johnson and this no doubt accounted fori the difference in their illnesses." Dr. Blackburn also informs us that he is leaving for America shortly; he has been negotiating to do post-graduate xvork at the Rockefeller Foundation, and we -would like him to have the opportunity of visiting you some time durLig his visit to the States, which he expects will last twelve months.
