Employee Communication Washington Works is considering additional employee communications dealing with our strong recommendation to female employees against considering sterilization for job-related reasons, and the reported birth of a child with birth defects to two female employees who worked in the FC-143 area. (An apparently normal child was b o m last week to a female employee who worked in the FC-143 area.) 2. Blood Analysis We have established capability at the Experimental Station for analyzing 70 samples per -week. Forty-eight blood samples from female employees from Washington Works were delivered last week. A listing of blood analysis needs is attached and shows need for about 650 analyses, Spruance is also establishing the method at their site. 5 .i EID079607 000051 AJP002944 J. T. Additional Haskell Studies A FC-143 inhalation teratology study to determine a no effect level in female rats will start 4/27, Some pups will be allowed to develop full term for observation, and the mothers' and fetuses' blood will be sampled. The full-term test will require about 8 months but useful information may be obtained sooner. Additional specimens will also be scouted. A reproduction study involving males and females is being considered. 4. Epidemiology A study is being planned by Medical to determine if pregnancy outcome of female employees or wives of male employees working with FC-143 is causally related to occupational exposure to FC-143.
