One of the big oil companies has requested officially from the .Ministry of Health the modification of this law in order to be able to increase the amount of TEL in gasoline, from three to four cubic centimeters per gallon. They are also asking that other leaded anti-knock additives (probably ietramethyl-leadj be per mitted. Since they did not mention this compound specifically, they are asking for a regulation which should specify the maxi main amount of additive to be put into the gasoline, based on the lead content of these chemicals. This request gives rise to several questions that should 51 T, i i o r oughly studied before answering: a } Should the increase ox TEL be permitted? b) How should the use of Tl.iL be regulated? c) iYhat maximum should be stated fox* the TML? d) Can all the leaded additives for gasoline be regulated as a group or should each substance be treated separately? e} 'That maximum should be stated if a mixture of TEL and TML, or other leaded additives is used? For answering the first question vie have the Public Health Serv ice Publication N2 712 which vras prepared in 1059 by an Advisory Con mittee on TEL. but for the rest of the questions we only have the fed. ing how the answer should be. Since our office of Industrial hygiene o\ has to prepare the modification of the law, we would like to know more 00 ID about the subject.
