89617t Ferric cyanoferratcfll): an effective antidote in
thallium poisoning. Hcydlnuf, Horst (Inst. Strahleiilhol.,
Kernforschungszcmrum, Karlsruhe, Gcr.). Ear. J. Ptsarmacol.
1969, 6(3), 340-4 (Eng). The influence of orally administered
ferric cyanofcrrate( 11), (Prussian Dluc, PE) on the distribution
and excretion of ***TI was studied in the rat. PB lowered the
retention of *"T1 by inhibition of its absorption and rcabsorption
from the intestinal tract. The toxicity of TLSCL was decreased
by PB. EB is suggested as an antidote in T1 poisoning.

89618u Cycloheximide-induced ultrastructural changes in
the adrenal cortex of the rat. D/sinich, Cs.; Ezalyi. U.; Okros,
I. (Inst. Exp. Med., Hung. Acad. Sci., Budapest, Hung.).
Expcricnlto 1969, 2-3(3), S33 6 (Eng). Wistar rats of both sexes
weighing about LSI) g. were used. Conspicuous changes in the
ultraslructure of the zona f.nCK-ul.it.i cells were oliserved follow
ing decapitation at nil min. even after the lowest (.7 mg.) dose.
At low-power magnification, compact masses of irregular sltapc,
medium d. and blurred outlines were seen to have accumulated
between organelles. In expts. involving both cyeloheximide and
ACT!I treatment, the changes were similar, although the cells
ap)>carcd swollen. Similar observations were made in some cells
of tint zona reticularis, but not in tlie zona glouicrulosa.. The
findings suggested a correlation between the substance seen to
accumulate among organelles and the increased cholesterol
.content of the adrenal cortex. The ullrastruclural changes were
the consequence of an impairment of the enzyme system.

89619v Effect of acetone on the level of ketone bodies in the
blood and urine of experimental animala of different species.
Linyucheva, L, A.; Tiunov, L. A.; Kolosova. T. S. (USSR).
Farmakol. Toksikol. (.Moscow) 1969, 32(4), 403-7 (Russ). Rats
and mice exposed to 30 mg. McjCO/l. and rabbits and guinea
pigs exposed to 72 mg./l. for 2 hrs. showed increased levels of
MciCQ, acctoacctic acid, and 3-hydruxybutyric acid in their
blood and urine immediately after inhalation and 24 hrs. later.
In all 4 species the fl-hydroxybutyric acid level increased to a
greater extent than did the other ketone bodies. The largest in
creases in the NfctCO and acctoacctic acid levels in the blood both
immediately and 21 hrs. after acute inhalation occurred in rats
and tlie smallest changes ap|>eared in rabbits.

8'ffi22r ATP and lipid euiiteids in the liver of mice after in
halation of chlorinated hydrocarbons. Ogata, Mamiia: Tomo-
kuui, Ktitsumaio; \YatauabC, Shinsaku (Med. Sch,, Okayama
Univ., Okayama, Japan). Ini. Health (Kawasaki, Japan.)
1963, 0(3), 11G-!) (Eng). The hepatic ATP level decrease and
the onset of fatty liver as indicated by the increase in the amt. of
tin- total lipids ami triglycerides in the mice exposed to 3 kinds of
chlorinated liyilrwarhoiis arc in tlie following order: CCL,
tetraclilorocthylenc, and trichloroethylene. The total lipid and
triglyceride contents increased proportionately to the fall in the
ATP level before and after the exposure to 3 kinds of chlorinated
hydrocarbons. It was suggested that there is some close rela
tionship between the decreased hepatic ATI' levels and tlie de
velopment of fatty liver in chlorinated hydrocarbon poisonings.

Valctuineie-Budihna, Mclka (Med. Fac., Ljubljana, Yugo
slavia). Ihuoslur. Physiol. Pharmacol. Acta 1968, 4(2), 157-04
(Eng). In guinea pigs the toxicity of the title cardiotonic gluco-
sides is modified in suljacitlc intoxications with MuCb and CCi*
(when evident morphological changes are restricted to the liver).
The following doses were used: 0.01 ml./kg. CCL in 2'i> oil soln.
and 0.003 g./kg. MuCL in 3% aq. soln., i.in., twice a week, or 10
times successively; glucosidcs were administered 30-39 days
after the last dose of CCL or MnCL. In intoxicated guinea pigs
the lethal dose of digitoxin did not differ significantly from that of
controls. The lethal dose of lanatoside* C was significantly
smaller only in CCL treated animals and the lethal dose of stro-
phauihusidc was significantly smaller in both intoxicated groups,

by alcohol. Lo Memo, G.; Chiara, A. (Univ. Catania, Catania,

An increase in both cybichromc oxidase and succtmc dehydro
genase was observed in the cells of the cerebellar cortex of rabbits
which had undergone either chronic or acute ale, pinioning, as
compared to the conpoisoued control animals. No change was
evident in other encephalic regions. The increase of these en
zymes at cerebellar level agrees with the symptomatologies!
data indicative of functional damage of the area during ale.
poisoning.
