HURRICANE CLASSIFICATION OF SF-72. lot 1581
Samples of kiln discharge have been screened and evaluated and the following summarizes the findings;
1. Drum 10 - 48 were quite uniform in color, despite the range
of resistance (33-52). There was some lightness and opacity attributed to the low (33) resistance drums.
2. Drums 49-57 inclusive (re-calcined drums 1-9 incl.) were all very close in color to each other and to a composite of drums 10-48.
3. There was less than 1# +40 mesh material in the samples tested.
The -40 +120 mesh material, in which we are prim arlly interestec averaged 65#, and ranged from 60-75#.
4. There was no evidence of hard lumps or "clinkers". The only hard material found was TiOg, and in one case a piece of cement,
and only a trace amount altogether.
The following is recommended for Hurricane classification:
1. Use any part or all of drums 11,12,25 for Hurricane classifica tion, If more material is needed, use drums 29,17,38. No pre-puTv
2. Operate classifier to give a 70/30 or a 65/35 split - or as close to this as possible (goal is -40 +120 mesh material). If this requires numerous trials, send us a 1 lb. sample taken
when at equilibrium for each, and we will make the necessary tests and evaluations.
3. Once the desired or optimum conditions have been established,
it is suggested that sufficient material be rerun to determine reproducibility, and another sample will be taken,
4. Following evaluation of the final sample, the results of the campaign (including hydrolysis, calcination, classification, and quality) will be discussed with the Technical Section and with Sales, and the processing or disposition of the balance
of the calcined material decided upon.
