INTER-OFFICE MEMO E. V. SchcM - From t. a, Rumberg At Bur1ing Lon at Burlington Subject DEI-603 DOUBLE MECHANICAL SEALS - BURLINGTON DEI-604 DOUBLE MECHANICAL SEALS - FLEMINGTON Oatr April 20, 1976 :!. .i. ogul sangfr L, Z, Isaak N. J. Quist C. G. Thompson J. P. Sandstedt S' A meeting was held at Burlington April 7, 1976 to discuss the design criteria for double mechanical seals. Messrs. W. Fogelsanger, N. Qui.st, L. Iszak and I. A. Rumbcrg attended. It was agreed that since we are seeking standardizing of seal applications on V, C. service pumps we would use the following: 1. Seals capable of being pressurized to 300 psi 2. Assembly to be of the cartridge type 3. Standardize on 1 1/4" &. 1 3/4" seal diameters 4. Maximum allowable temperature generated by seal of 120F 5. Maximum of 2 - 3 cc/jlr of glycerin to leak into pump cavity 6. Seal manufacturer's representative to be on-site during installa tion of test seals 7. A Bendix Head shall be relocated to seal installation for G.C. readout 8. Seals will be tested on similar services such, as: a) Copoly recov'd monomer charge b) Copoly recov'd monomer recirc, c) PVC recov'd monomer charge d) Plastisol rccov'd monomer charge 9. Seal manufacturers to be involved in test; a) Chempro b) Duramctallic c) Crane It should be rioted that the seal manufacturers are agreeable to the idea of furnishing seals free of charge for our testing. ) XAR:gm I.
