Hello everyone,
I've had a brief opportunity to speak with Aurelia by and phone and wanted to follow up with the final plan for tomorrow.
First, please note that due to a change by USDA, our panel starts between 9 and 9.15. You all
are welcome to be in the room earlier to hear introductions, etc. Or you can come closer to 9
as you wish. If you send me a text
(b)(6)
I will come out and greet you in the
lobby of the hotel and bring you into the room.
Attached is the agenda for day one so you can see which regulators will be present.
Also attached the slides we communicated about last week.
CHANGE IN PLAN (as discussed with Aurelia):
I. Aurelia will start with remarks. Pam, if you want to add to that with FWS organisation, that would be great. We will hold the totoaba/vaquita issue until Part III.
II. We will then dive into the CITES detail using the slides as prompts I assume this is where Rosemarie will star....
III. I will leave the stage and two of our members will come up to discuss a bit about Alliance and Alliance parks engagement on vaquita and to share thoughts about lessons learned in the interest of other species. It would be great if one of you could then talk about USG efforts/any current news out of Mexico and of course feel free to react to the information you will just have heard. All three of you can remain on the podium or not as you wish (I don't know who is best placed to speak to the vaquita, etc. issue).
Sorry for the last minute change but we think this will maximize the value of the session and enrich the discussions by keeping the CITES discussion fairly brief and allowing more time to think together about in situ and ex situ conservation going forward.
Final details:
1) If any of you wish to stay to lunch, please let me know.
2) Attached please find an invitation to a Congressional briefing which you and/or your staff are welcome to join on Friday of this week.
Thanks so much and looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning.
Regards, laura
