- Ref. Ares(2024)6941816 - 01/10/2024 Report on an online meeting with Orgalim on 11/4/24, with Aurel CIOBANU-DORDEA, (ENV B2), ________________ (ENV B3) and ______ B4) Orgalim presented its short-term priorities, which include Pfas, described as a "very important - top priority" topic (only topic of the meeting of direct relevance to ENV 82). DG ENV presented past, ongoing and planned actions and priorities of the Directorate. The work related to the ongoing PFAS restriction was mentioned, in relation to the ECHA consultation, the approach by sectors to be consolidated into one single ECHA opinion; the need to respond to citizens' concerns, hence the need to limit the use of PFAS; the possibility to have longer transition periods in short-run, when no alternative are available, but the necessity for industry, in the mid-term, to invest and innovate towards non-pfas alternatives. It was stressed that companies providing alternatives to PFAS-containing products need to become more visible. The first-mover advantage of investing asap in PFAS alternatives and the usefulness of sharing info on alternatives was stressed. Out of scope PFAS, Orgalim stressed that alternatives for Fluoroplolymers have been looked for for years, but they are not always possible to use for all applications.
